Affidavits record that David Hughes, the deceased's brother killed him. The Hughes' family, consisting of three brothers were a 'fighting, quarrelsome people' who 'had an inclination to quarrel with the Jones's'. Indicted with his brother, both nicknamed the 'Lads of the Coomb'. The two sets of brothers had previously attended a cockfight.
