Murder of Lewis Griffiths, Glansevin, Llangadog, gentleman, by kicking and beating him following a dispute between prisoner's uncle - indicted separately in doc. 50 - and deceased at an inn called the Square and Compass on fair day. Deceased had refused to pay for his part of the reckoning and an affray ensued. Deceased died on 20.9.1811. Prisoner 'a man with red hair, red beard and red whiskers and marked with small pox or freckles and about 23 or 24 years, a strong built man of about five foot four inches'. Surgeon used a bougie (an exploratory surgical instrument) and a catheter when examining Lewis Griffiths, said to be 'much addicted to drink'. mwy
