Murder of Joseph Rogers, churchwarden, prosecutor's husband by beating him with a stick. A public notice had been read out by Aaron Edwards, Chirk, parish clerk, in the churchyard. It had been sent via John Myddleton of Chirk Castle's steward, stating that he, John Myddleton, was not responsible for the prisoner's credit. The parish clerk refused to write down on paper his wording of the notice at the request of the vicar, Rev. Robert Roberts and the prisoner. An affray ensued culminating in the death of John Rogers who had tried to prevent the proceedings. mwy
