Murder of Charles Hughes, Tremeirchion, sawyer, prosecutor's husband, by beating him. The prisoner, in the company of fellow miners on returning form work at Trelogan, called at a shop or smithy where they met the deceased. A long-standing dispute between the prosecutor and the prisoner resulted in the former challenging the latter to a fight. Prisoner charged the deceased with having nicknamed him John Gingerbread and that he was of 'an ill breed, thy grandfather killed thy grandmother'. mwy
